Finding a job...

Ok so now we have our degree! So what do we do with it? Teachers are being laid off and there aren't any jobs out there. That seems to be the consensus from people I have talked to. However, I just went on the Alabama state department of education’s website and there are 816 jobs that are posted. Of course there aren’t any listed for Baldwin or Mobile counties. I have spoke with administrators that admit that they have to post these jobs for a certain amount of days but most of the time they are already filled when they post them. It’s really aggravating when trying to find a job and the few that are advertised are already filled. Fortunately for me, I am moving to Birmingham and there are a lot of advertised vacancies there. Unfortunately, I know no one there and am scared that it will be difficult to get in front of a principal. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  1. I am actually originally from Birmingham and have some people that I know that are teachers! I just recently went on the Shelby County site and saw that there were many job opportunities available. What part of Birmingham are you moving to? I may be able to help out and reach out to some teachers that I know. Let me know over email. Good Luck, dont get too down! Things will work out! I am going through the same struggles as you! It is sad!

  2. I understand your frustration. I am terrified to start my internship. I currently have a decent job and I am putting that job in jeopardy to do my student teaching. I am praying that my boss will hold my job for me while I do my internship because I am not counting on getting a job when I finish in December. I am, however, trying to stay optimistic. It is very scary though when all you hear about education jobs is bad. Good luck on you move!
